Terms of use
Last updated 8 September 2026
The rules for using Movie Club. Using the site means you accept them. They are short on purpose.
Who can use it
You need to be at least 13. If you are under 18, get a parent or guardian to agree to these terms with you. One person, one account: do not share yours or use somebody else's.
Your account and your recovery code
There are no email addresses here, so there is no password reset link to send you. When you sign up we show you a recovery code once, and only its hash is stored. If you forget your password and lose that code, nobody can get you back in, including us. That is not a policy we can make an exception to; it is a consequence of not holding the code. Save it somewhere you will still have it later.
You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us at [email protected] if you think somebody else has got into it, and change your password, which signs every other session out.
How clubs work
A club is run by its admins. Within their own club, an admin can set the week's film by hand, adjust members' points, remove films that have been put forward, remove members, and delete the club and everything in it. Joining a club means accepting that. If you do not like how one is run, you can leave it at any time.
Points, streaks and the leaderboard are a game. They are not worth anything, we do not guarantee they are correct, and we may recalculate or correct them.
What you post
You keep ownership of what you write here. By posting it you give us permission to store and display it to the people the site shows it to, for as long as you leave it up. Do not post anything you do not have the right to post.
Do not use this site to:
- Harass, threaten, bully or impersonate anybody.
- Post anything unlawful, or sexual content involving children.
- Break into, overload or probe the site, or try to get at data that is not meant for you.
- Scrape it, or automate it in a way that is not a person using it normally.
- Post spam or advertising.
- Get round the limits on how often the site will check a Letterboxd diary.
Report anything that breaks these rules to [email protected]. We can remove content and suspend or delete accounts that do, and we will use our judgement about when to.
Letterboxd
Movie Club is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Letterboxd in any way. It reads public pages from Letterboxd on your behalf, when you ask it to and once at the end of a week to catch a watch you forgot to log. Only link an account you control, keep to Letterboxd's own terms, and understand that if they change how their site works, parts of this one may stop working.
Film titles, posters and ratings come from Letterboxd and from film databases including TMDB. They belong to their respective owners and are shown here for identification. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
Availability
This is a small site. It may be slow, down, or broken. We may change how it works, remove features, or stop running it altogether. We will try to give warning before shutting it down, but we do not promise to, and we do not promise that any of it will be available at any particular time.
Keep your own copy of anything you would miss. Your Letterboxd diary is yours and is not affected by anything that happens here.
Where we stand legally
The site is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost data, or for anything arising from your use of the site, beyond what cannot be excluded by law.
Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If you are a consumer, you keep your statutory rights.
Ending it
You can stop using the site whenever you like, and delete your account yourself from your account page at any time. What that does, including what happens to a club you run, is described in the privacy policy. We can suspend or remove an account that breaks these terms, or that is being used in a way that puts the site or its members at risk.
Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top says when they last changed, and carrying on using the site after that means accepting the new version. If a change matters, we will say so in the site rather than only here.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer somewhere else, this does not take away the protections of the law where you live.
Contact
[email protected] for anything about these terms.
